MOTHER OF BABY BORN WITH ZIKA VIRUS & MEDICAL TEAM TO UPDATE MEDIA ON HER TREATMENT

At three months pregnant, Maria Fernanda Ramirez Bolivar contracted the Zika Virus in her native Venezuela. She tested positive for the virus in April after experiencing symptoms, including rash and body aches.  UHealth – University of Miami Health System doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital monitored her through the rest of her pregnancy.

On June 28, Maria Fernanda Ramirez Bolivar, delivered her fourth child at the Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial. Little Micaela Milagros Mendoza Ramirez weighed eight pounds, and one ounce. She remained at Holtz Children’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit for more than weeks, where she underwent of tests to measure the impact of the virus.  
 
During a press conference, Maria Fernanda and her team of UHealth and Jackson doctors will update media on Micaela’s course of treatment, which currently include physical and occupational therapy at Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital.
