Overview

Jackson Health System / Jackson Memorial Hospital, in affiliation with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Breast Surgery Section of the Division of Surgical Oncology offers a one to two year surgical fellowship designed to provide in depth multidisciplinary training in the diagnostic evaluation, surgical management, and adjuvant care of breast cancer patients in addition to management of patients with benign breast disorders.  In addition, a strong emphasis is placed on participation in clinical and translational research.  The goal of the fellowship is to provide the trainee with the independent skills to be a leader in breast care in an academic or community environment.

ACGME Accredited: No, but approved by the Society of Surgical Oncology.
Residents or Fellows per year:  1 Fellow Every Year
Duration: 1 Year; with an optional second year for dedicated to clinical research.
Postgraduate Training Required: General Surgery Residency 
U.S. Citizenship Required: No

Residents/Fellows who have graduated our program in the last 10 years obtained faculty positions at:

  • Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami
  • Ben Gurion University, Israel

Requirements: US Citizenship or J1 Visa eligibility.

Application Deadline: SSO Match deadline, process and interview dates 

Six months on breast surgery, one month medical oncology/radiation oncology/pathology/ breast radiology, two months elective.

Board Exam Requirements
General Surgery BE/BC or equivalent for foreign graduates

Educational & Other Experience
Multidisciplinary Breast Care; Breast Surgery; Breast Ultrasound.

Research
Optional second year for lab or clinical mentored research. Multiple clinical and outcome research projects available during the one year fellowship as well

Call
On call for Breast Service shared with other fellows on service and PGY IV.
