Working in affiliation with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the Chaplin Family Pediatric Emergency Room is staffed with specially trained medical professionals skilled in treating pediatric patients. Upon arrival, children are seen either in the order of the acuity of their illness/injury or in the order of their arrival. If a child needs additional treatment, they are admitted to Holtz Children’s Hospital immediately.
The pediatric emergency room at Holtz Children’s is located on the Jackson Memorial Hospital campus off of N.W. 9th Avenue and N.W. 17th Street.
If a critically ill child needs to be treated in our Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), our partners are encouraged to request domestic or international emergency via ground, jet or helicopter ambulance to Holtz Children’s. Our NICU/PICU Transport Team, which includes a critical care respiratory therapist, a pediatric/neonatal intensive care physician, and a critical care RN or ARNP, is available 24/7 – and not just for emergencies. We also transport non-critical pediatric patients.
Our Aeromedical Transport Service provides regional air ambulance transport from other hospitals and emergency medical service organizations within a 200-mile radius of Miami, including the Bahamas. This allows children who are traveling in the Caribbean or are not near downtown Miami, access to Holtz Children’s. The helicopters are equipped with a state-of-the-art critical care unit and equipment capable of providing continuity of care en route for critically ill children.
If you are a medical professional and would like to coordinate transport services, please call 1-855-GO-2HOLTZ (855-462-4658).
If you are a patient experiencing an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
