The pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program at the Children’s Heart Center at Holtz Children’s Hospital focuses on the surgical correction of all congenital heart defects in newborns, children, and adults. Procedures include surgery for heart failure and implantation of mechanical circulatory support systems, as well as pediatric and adult heart transplantation.

Working as a team with pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiac anesthesia, and pediatric cardiac intensive care specialists, and a large group of nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, pediatric cardiac perfusionists and social workers, the surgical outcomes involving pediatric cardiac surgery procedures are among the best in the nation. The cardiothoracic surgeons at the Children’s Heart Center routinely operate on children with a wide array of cardiac malformations including:

  • Transposition of the great arteries
  • Hypoplastic left heart syndrome
  • Total and partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection
  • Truncus arteriosus
  • Pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect
  • Pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum
