A Story Of Hope…and Commitment
Hope Kinsey is no stranger to South Florida. Originally from Massachusetts, she moved to Miami in 1948 and has loved it ever since.
But Hope is nearly 90 years old, and she’s already dealt with some of the burdens that life brings at an older age. She currently battles arthritis, and she needed open-heart surgery a few years ago.
Fortunately, the experts at Jackson North Medical Center helped her get back on her feet through rehab.
“I started out by going to the Aquasize pool sessions they have at Jackson North,” Hope said. “I’ve been going now for 20 years and have enjoyed it so much. The water is nice and warm, the room is comfortable, and we have a lot of fun.”
Hope had so much fun that her rehab only lasted about two weeks … far outpacing the typical recovery period patients go through for open-heart surgery.
“I did very well,” she recalled. “But you have to put a lot into it and have determination. Be willing to do the things they ask you to do. The staff at Jackson doesn’t push you to do something you’re uncomfortable with.”
Hope stresses that if anyone is about to undergo rehab at Jackson, the staff can talk you through everything, but it’s ultimately up to the patient to make the most of it.
“Try not to be lazy about anything. If a specialist asks you to do something, at least try it and see what you can do. It will be very helpful in the long run,” she said.
And don’t tell her you’re too old to push yourself and improve your lifestyle. Thanks to the treatment at Jackson, Hope is now attending her Aquasize pool sessions three times a week and continues to see improvements in her overall well-being.
“Get into that pool,” she implored.
“I will be 90 years old next year – and I get an awful lot of compliments about the way I look and the way I act. I look forward to what life has to bring.”
