Miami, FL – Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center earned the distinction of becoming an Accredited Pediatric Heart Failure Institute by The Healthcare Colloquium. Holtz Children’s is the first pediatric facility in Florida and 8th in the nation.

“The commitment to high quality care of those with pediatric heart failure is clear and was evident during the Holtz Children’s site visit with all levels of leadership in attendance,” said Jeffrey Lewis, MBOE, BSN, RN, LSSBB, Member Services Coach & Senior Consultant at The Healthcare Colloquium who reviewed the work done by Holtz Children’s Hospital.

“To be the first hospital in Florida – and one of just eight in the nation – recognized as an accredited Pediatric Heart Failure Institute by the Healthcare Colloquium is a huge accomplishment for our medical team at Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center,” said Paolo Rusconi, MD, Medical Director of Pediatric Heart Failure and Transplant at Holtz Children’s and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. “We have always been committed to providing the highest quality, most advanced care for our pediatric cardiac patients – and becoming a part of this elite group is a testament to the work we do and our many successful outcomes.”

“Evidence-based medicine and compassionate care are the keys to UM/Jackson’s pediatric cardiac programs, including our nationally-recognized heart failure and cardiac transplant programs,” said Judy Schaechter, MD, MBA, Chief of Service at Holtz Children’s Hospital, and Interim Chair, Department of Pediatrics, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. “Treating heart failure well means keeping children from heart transplant for as long as possible, but only when we can keep them high-functioning and living their lives fully with the most cutting-edge devices and therapies. We are proud to be the eighth program in the nation to receive this coveted distinction, based on a scientific review of our highest quality patient care and standards achieved.”

“My experience at Holtz Children’s Hospital in Miami provided me with a unique perspective.  I not only served as a site surveyor, but I have also had the opportunity to go through the Colloquium accreditation process at the hospital where I am employed in Arizona,” says Kelly Wilson, RN, BSN, C4, Heart Failure/Chest Pain Clinical Program Manager at Banner Boswell Medical Center. “Through the Colloquium, two hospitals on opposite sides of the nation were able to come together to share developmental strategies for the heart failure resource nurse program. The Healthcare Colloquium brings healthcare providers together to create a network of sharing and learning, thus providing better care for the communities we serve.”

The Healthcare Colloquium is the only accrediting body offering Pediatric Heart Failure Accreditation. The unique accreditation process builds on the member hospital’s prior improvement experience leading to initial heart failure accreditation. Member hospitals work within four established domains of heart failure: community, hospital, clinicians, and science using The Healthcare Colloquium’s continuum of care model. Results include an integration of heart failure care, streamlined processes across the entire continuum of care, patient enablement, and active collaboration with other Colloquium member hospitals nationwide.
