Jackson Partners With SEIU Local 1991 and PQC for Affordable Care Act (ACA) Enrollment Event

Miami, FL – On Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jackson Health System will host an Affordable Care Act (ACA) enrollment event in partnership with SEIU Local 1991 and PQC – Partnership for Quality Care. This will take place at the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) West room 127 at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), millions of Americans are now eligible for affordable and quality health insurance. The Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment period began on November 1 and runs through December 15, 2017.

All entities - Jackson, SEIU Local 1991 and PQC - seek to facilitate and assist the community to find health coverage that fits their budget to enroll in the federal government’s marketplace.

“Jackson Health System currently has Health Navigators at all of its hospitals and clinics to assist people during enrollment,” said LaQuanna Scott-Lightfoot, associate administrator of uncompensated care at Jackson Health System. “This event will allow us to further assist the needs of our community in a more grassroots approach.”

The event will also serve to educate the public on their eligibility for insurance affordability programs and the full range of Qualified Health Plan (QHP) options.

“It both improves health outcomes and is more cost effective to ensure people have quality, affordable health insurance they can count on,” said Martha Baker, RN, president of SEIU Local 1991. “We’re proud to have our member volunteers assist with outreach efforts so that people in our community who can apply for coverage through the government marketplace.”

Attendees can compare plans based on price, benefits, quality, and other features that are important to them before making a choice. Representatives from event partners will be available to assist every step of the way.

“Members of our community should be prepared to show their home and mailing address, social security numbers, document information for legal immigrants and employer and income information,” said Scott-Lightfoot. “Our mission is to assist individuals that are unfunded and help them gain access to medical services.”

Individuals who fail to sign up for insurance under ACA may be penalized. The next enrollment event at Jackson is scheduled for December 9; however, Health Navigators are available at several Jackson facilities – some by appointment only – to help enroll people before the December 15 deadline.
