When Ryder opened its doors in 1992, it became one of the only stand-alone trauma centers in the nation. Last year, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) verified Ryder as the only Level I trauma center in Miami-Dade County, and one of just two in Florida. Ryder has become the designated facility to treat the President of the United States, if necessary, as well as the home of the United States Army Trauma Training Center, where Army Forward Surgical Teams train and prepare to provide care to those injured on the battlefield.
Residents of South Miami-Dade County will be safer thanks to the provisional Level II trauma center at Jackson South Community Hospital. The Jackson South Level II Trauma Center* will stand on its own as a full-service, around-the-clock trauma center. But unlike other Level II trauma centers, it will also have immediate and always-on access to the cutting-edge resources of Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial.

Ryder Trauma Center
Since 1992, the doctors, nurses and staff at Ryder Trauma Center have been dedicated to saving the lives of people with critical injuries. In 2016, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) verified Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital as the only Level I trauma center in Miami-Dade County, and one of just two in Florida. Verified trauma centers must meet measurable high-standards of criteria that ensure trauma care capabilities and institutional performance. For patients, their families, and the community, verification confirms that Ryder has demonstrated its commitment to deliver the highest quality trauma care.
In addition to the world-class care provided at Ryder, the facility is also a leader in research and education. Surgical and medical teams from throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia have visited the trauma center to study how Ryder’s top caregivers provide advanced trauma care to all of their patients.
Today, Ryder is the centerpiece of Miami-Dade County’s trauma care system – a proven leader with years of experience and successes.

The entire team is dedicated to providing care to patients who need lifesaving care, including those injured in motor vehicle crashes, gun violence, burns, and falls.
The new trauma center’s* medical staff will be led by expert trauma surgeons from UHealth – The University of Miami Health System, including Dr. Enrique Ginzburg, a 24-year trauma veteran and leader from Ryder Trauma, who has been named the trauma medical director of the Jackson South Trauma Center.
The standards and the expectations for trauma care at Jackson are exceptionally high for clinical quality, patient safety, and service excellence.
