The Miami Transplant Institute Pediatric Center at Holtz Children’s Hospital is one of the most comprehensive and technologically advanced in the nation, offering every pediatric transplant specialty available. Families find treatment, hope and comfort in a world-class, multidisciplinary team that works around the clock and is dedicated to taking care of infants and children who often times are presented with the most complex of cases, with many ultimately needing a life-saving organ transplant.

MTI is home to pediatric specialists in cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, hepatology, nephrology, infectious disease, immunology, psychology, as well as a pediatric team of clinical nurse coordinators, child life specialists, social workers, nutritionists, pharmacists, and other support staff that provide specialized care to fit the individual needs of each of our patients. This multidisciplinary team provides families a comprehensive plan of care for their young ones by offering the most appropriate treatment, at times allowing some children to avoid transplantation.

MTI is also the world leader in multi-organ transplantation. These operations are rare and in general very complex and resourceful. Liver-kidney, upper cluster (liver-pancreas-duodenum), lung-liver, heart-liver, heart-lung-liver, intestine-kidney and multivisceral transplants are examples of possible combinations and it is always tailored to the patient's need. Our experience and strength in multidisciplinary care makes for better outcomes and improved quality of life for these complex patients.

Kidney Transplant

MTI performs 15 to 25 pediatric kidney transplants per year with outstanding outcomes and competitive volumes throughout the United States. A dedicated pediatric multidisciplinary team of medical professionals and patient advocates work together in synchrony to increase the access to transplantation and improve the quality of life for even the most complex of cases.
